Suboxone treatment limit has been expanded
Some big news was released on July 5, 2016. The Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that the patient cap limit for prescribing buprenorphine for substance use disorder will be increased to 275. This rule marks the largest piece of rule-making in over a decade.
Physicians around the country have struggled with managing long wait lists, as the previous patient limit maxed out at 100 patients per provider. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA), an estimated 2.2 million Americans are believed to have an opioid use disorder. This final rule is intended to expand access to medication assisted treatment (MAT) programs across the nation to those in need.
